Judaism is peaceful, and there are many Jews who are vehemently against Israel and Zionism, especially holocaust survivors.
Anti Zionism is NOT anti Semitism.
Israel is founded on Zionism. Zionism began in Protestant Christianity, particularly in Calvinism, and Evangelical Christianity. During European colonization, Palestine was under British Colonial rule. Prior to British rule, Palestinians were under the Ottomans, and prior to the Ottomans the Palestine has been under various empire control including the Byzantines, Romans, Greeks, Persians, and so on. However, with empire shifts came ideological shifts among the Palestinian people. At some point, Palestine was predominantly Jewish, then predominantly Christian, and now predominantly Muslim. However, Palestinian people were not ethnically cleansed or removed from their land. Christians, Muslims, and Jews, of a multiplicity of native ethnicities have lived in Palestine for centuries.
Evangelical Christian beliefs of European Jews being the biblical Israelites, became an imperial policy during British colonial Era, in the 1830's. Prior to this, historically, antisemitism and Jewish hate in Non-European regions of the world, was non-existent. Jews in many Arab and Eastern regions were revered, and many were native and respected in the lands for centuries. In Palestine, the Jews, Muslims, and Christians native to the region, have lived together for centuries, even though religious prominence has differed over time. Unlike the Levant, Europe had an antisemitism problem, and continued persecuting minorities, including their Jewish minorities, who would often flee to seek refuge in the Ottoman Empire.
During British Colonization, Palestine fell under British rule. A European man called Laurance Oliphant combined his religious and imperial motives as a way to “solve Britain's worries [of racism and antisemitism] by establishing a Jewish colony under the protection of Great Britain”. Essentially, using Palestine to solve European racism and Europe’s “Jewish problem”. The colonization of Palestine doesn't mean native Palestinians ceased to exist, or didn't have pre-existing self-determination. Rather, Palestinian people were oppressed and fought for their liberation, and do so till this day.
Most people are aware of European Jews fleeing the Holocaust after WW2 into Palestine for refuge. Palestinian weclomed Jews fleeing the Holocaust, as they too were under brutal British Occupation. However, the plan to assylum in Palestine, mixed with the Zionist ideology to steal Palestine, ethnically cleanse the Palestinian people and keep the land for the world's Jews became evident upon the official creation of Israel. The intention to transport European jews to Native Palestine (an ethnically and religiously diverse region), was a Western Political move to enact Western interest in the Middle East and North Africa, gaining control over the resources of these lands. Israel and Zionism was not invented by Jews Native to the Middle East. but instead invented by Colonizers, and European Jews looking to colonize native land.
Zionism is a modern ideology, with many faces. Is a supremacist ideology, that enables settler colonialism, violent displacement of land and native people, ethnic cleansing and genocide, for resource extraction and wealth.
Zionism, like Nazism, is a supremacist ideology. What remains of modern day Palestine looks like the concentration camps of Jews during Nazi Germany.
Often Zionists will argue that "Zionism" or to be a "Zionist" simply means believing Israel has the right to exist.
However, for the last 76 years, Israel has relentlessly proven that two-states cannot exist as long as Israel itself exists. Israel has been violently bombing and violating international law to seize more and more land throughout the Middle East, while maintaining a deadly chokehold over native Palestinians since its inception. During the Oslo Accords, (a pair of interim agreements between Palestinian Liberation Organization and Israel) during which Palestinians agreed to allow the Israeli Regime to seize 80% of Palestinian land. Yet, since the agreement froward, Israel has murdered Palestinians who struggled to observe their right to life, liberty, and freedom within their own legally recognized territories. Israel has denied Palestinian refugees to return to their ancestral homes, and has murdered peaceful protestors. Additionally, Israel has continued to annex more and more Palestinian land, making co-existence with Native Palestinians impossible. Furthermore, "Arab Israelis" also known as Palestinians who didn't leave during the Nakbah, are treated as second class citizens with constant abuse and harassment by Israeli authority and often live in fear and unsafety.
A two-state solution is something Israel has rejected from the moment of its deadly inception. Israel is a land grabbing machine and the "two-state" solution has been something that Israel has continually ignored and violated international law.
An additional question is "what does it mean to be Israeli"?
"Israeli" is someone who is recognized by the state of Israel to be a citizen, either by birth on stolen land or immigration - both of which has costed a constant depopulation and displacement of Palestinian people. "Israeli", isn't an "ethnic" group of people. They're a conglomerate settler identity. Like any colonial nation states. For instance, Canada. To be Canadian doesn't constitute any particular ethnic background. Rather, it's a melting pot of immigrants since European colonization. The only way to be "ethnically" Canadian, is to be indigenous to Canada.
To be Canadian or American or Australian, simply means belonging to a nation state with borders. The only way to be ethnically Canadian, American, or Australian is to be indigenous. During colonization, European settlers ethnically cleansed and created genocidal campaigns against native people of Canada, America, and Australia, and today, there are university courses that teach these violent legacies as well as the need to work toward reconciliation. In contrast, countries where colonizers either never entered, or didn't stay such as India, Egypt, China, and the Congo - all the inhabitants are native peoples. Languages, and ethnicities are diverse, however the people are native to the lands as they have remained for centuries, and these lands are ancestorial to these native populations.
Likewise, Palestine has seen many empires come and go, yet the people have remained the same. With changes in empires, the religious predominance of the Palestinian people have changed - from predominantly Jewish, to predominantly Christian, then now, predominantly Muslim. Nonetheless, the native people were never ethnically cleansed off for new settler colonies to takeover, as we are seeing now with the creation of Israel. Because of this nativity to the land of Palestine, Jews, Christians, and Muslims have lived side by side, harmoniously for centuries, converting to each others religions, sharing clothing, language, culture and history as Palestinian people.
It was only after British colonization, where the Zionism project was born, creating the colonial state of Israel, which was designed to displace native Palestinians, ethnically cleansing all Palestinian men, women, and children, and subjecting them to diseases, genocide, and famines.
Hence, from Israel's founding fathers, the foundation of Zionist ideology, to the current Israeli government - the nation state of Israel strictly requires violent displacement of native Palestinians, and aparthied in order to exist. This issue goes well beyond Palestine, as the greater Levant is currently what Israel seeks to continue annexing. For instance, Lebanon, Syria, and the rest of the Middle East.
The issue is larger than Netanyahu's regime. An astonishing 75% percent of Israeli's believe men, women and children in Palestine deserve the genocide occurring. According to the Haaretz, 75% of Israeli's reject US's request to shift to "lesser bombing" of civilians.
Palestine has always been home to jews. Jews who converted to Christianity, and Islam. And Jews who remained Jewish. Palestine has always been home to immigrant Jews fleeing the Holocaust and from across the world. The issue has never been Jews and Arab Christians and Muslims being unable to coexist peacefully. Rather, the issue is inherently the ideology of Zionism that constructed the project known as "Israel", which works to displace all natives, and enact western interest in Middle Eastern Regions. The solution is returning Palestine as Palestine, and abiding by international law to allow all Palestinians the right to return home to their ancestral lands (majority of which is now called Israel), while Jewish immigrants live along side Palestinian natives, as well as former Israeli Jews, who would be known as Palestinian Jews, living in the land of Palestine.
